Accepting Artist Submissions

The Ikouii Open is an annual online group exhibition of artwork created by both disabled and non-disabled artists. Artists who practice in a variety of mediums or discipline at any stage in their art career are encouraged to submit work in response to a disability-centered theme. The goal of the open is to activate social movements, educate, inspire, and evoke change within the arts and disability communities. The Ikouii Open will include all art forms and genre’s. The virtual gallery will run from June 1st – August 1st, 2019.

This group exhibition, titled Inspired Identity will explore the interwoven influence of art, disability, culture, and societal attributes that make up their identity, sense of self – What inspires us further into our identity? How does impairment barriers influence our identity? What capacity does society have to affect our identity?

Accepting all contemporary and fine art submissions that clearly employ and represent the theme. Eligible media include, but are not limited to: drawing, painting, mixed media, oil/chalk pastels, block/ink print, pottery/vessels, sculpture, assemblage, digital art, collage, metal work, jewelry design, fiber/textile art, art installation, wood work, furniture design and contemporary craft. If a genre, medium or material you specialize in is not listed, please email submissions@ikouii.com to provide specifics about your work. Submissions are open to local, regional, national and international artists.

Each piece will have the artist’s contact and website information displayed for buyers. Artists are responsible for their own sales. Should an interested party inquire about a piece, the artist will be notified with the buyer copied.

Best in Show: The Ikouii Creative will announce one Best In Show for the exhibition. Winner will be emailed a certificate of Best In Show, and will have a featured article with images, complete with Q&A, on the Ikouii blog and monthly newsletter. and social media recognition.

Honorable Mention: The Ikouii Creative will announce between one and three honorable mentions in varying categories. Winners will be emailed a certificate and recognized on social media.

The Ikouii Creative Founder/Curator, Atlanta-based artist, Aleatha Lindsay has curated numerous exhibitions. She studied art at Georgia State University, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Russell Sage College and a Master of Arts from Savannah College of Art & Design. After completing her studies, she went on to pursue posts in the mental health, arts community development, and special education arenas. A working artist with a disability herself, Lindsay has a passion for educating organizations on inclusive attitudes and creating inclusive opportunities for all artists.

The exhibition will be publicized locally, regionally and nationally via our social media platforms, email, and press release. The Ikouii Creative reserves the right to use photographs and/or digital images of any accepted work for the purpose of publicity for either the exhibit or the artist.

May 1. 2019: Open for entries.
May 25. 2019: Entry deadline.
May 27. 2019 : Accepted Artist Notifications
June 1: Exhibition Opens
August 1: Exhibition Closes

Each artist is limited to six (6) images per submission.

$15 (USD) non-refundable/non-transferable fee for non-members.
$10 (USD) non-refundable/non-transferable fee for Ikouii Artists.
Payments must be submitted online at the time of application.
Deadline to submit work is May 25, 2019.

Accepted artists will be notified no later than May 27, 2019 via their provided email.
