ArtRes Series | A Moroccan Artist Residency
By definition, Artist-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities exist to invite artists, academicians, curators, and all manner of creative people for a time and space away from their usual environment and obligations. They provide a time of reflection, research, presentation and/or production. In October of 2019, I took the plunge and participated in my first Artist-in-Residence at Green Olive Arts in Tétouan, Morocco. Each day during my time there was presented with new adventures and new challenges that will forever shape me as an artist. While artist residencies provide the space and time for artists to create and focus on their work, I believe they are an under-utilized opportunity for all creatives. Completing an artist residency helped reignite my creative spirit and push me further into my art practice. I now want to encourage every artist to complete at least one artist-in-residence experience in their lifetime. From this residency, some of the things I gained was a new work practice, discipline, and the opportunity to explore my artwork deeply and more broadly. In this new blog series, I will be sharing about my experience as an Artist-in-Residence in Morocco and offering some insight that may be valuable to artists, especially those living with a disability. – Aleatha Lindsay Stay tuned!
